Frequently asked questions

Choosing the right game

How do I know which game suits my child's age?

Every game shows its age range on the product page, and you can browse by Ages 3-5, 6-8 or 9-14 from the menu. The ranges are guidance rather than rules: a confident reader may enjoy an older set, and a younger sibling can usually join in with help.

My children are different ages. Can they play together?

Yes. Most games take 2 or more players across a span of ages, and the questions work at whatever level a child answers them. Check the players and age range on each product page.

What's the difference between the board games and the card games?

Board games take longer and suit a sit-down session together. Card games are quicker and easier to take out with you, or to use for a few minutes at bedtime. Both cover the same ground.

How long does a game take to play?

Play time is listed on every product page, typically 20 to 50 minutes depending on the game and how much the conversation runs on.

What the games actually do

What will my child get out of it?

Each game names the skills it practises, such as noticing feelings, listening to others, or building confidence. They're listed on every product page.

Are these therapy tools or just games?

The games draw on cognitive behavioural techniques, the same practical ideas therapists use, but they're designed for families to play at home. They don't replace professional support.

My child won't talk about feelings. Will this help?

That's exactly what they're built for. The questions are part of the game, so a child answers while playing rather than being sat down for a conversation. Having somewhere else to look makes it easier.

Do I need any training to use them?

No. Everything you need is in the box, and the rules are written for parents rather than professionals.

Practical

What's in the box?

Contents are listed on every product page - for example, 100 cards, a board and a die.

Can I use these in a classroom or clinic?

Yes. Many are used by teachers, counsellors and therapists as well as families. The For Therapists and Schools collection gathers the most suitable ones.

Which should I start with?

Pick by your child's age first, then by what you'd like to work on. If you're unsure, the bestsellers are a safe starting point.
