About this game
The forest needs replanting, and the player who plants the most trees wins. Getting a tree in the ground means answering a question or taking on a task first, so the game rewards children who are willing to have a go.
There is real strategy here, which matters more than it sounds. A child playing to win is concentrating on the game, not on the fact that they are talking about how they feel. The trees are the point as far as they are concerned. The rest arrives on its own.
CBTrees draws on cognitive behavioural techniques, the same practical ideas therapists use to help children connect thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
How it plays
Two to four players, 20 to 40 minutes. Answer, complete, plant. Count the trees at the end. There are 44 of them, so the board fills up and the finish is visible from a long way out.
Good for
- Children who need a game to be a proper game before they will engage with it
- Slightly older children who find simpler question games babyish
- Small groups where a competitive element keeps everyone in
