About this game

The forest needs replanting, and the player who plants the most trees wins. Getting a tree in the ground means answering a question or taking on a task first, so the game rewards children who are willing to have a go.

There is real strategy here, which matters more than it sounds. A child playing to win is concentrating on the game, not on the fact that they are talking about how they feel. The trees are the point as far as they are concerned. The rest arrives on its own.

CBTrees draws on cognitive behavioural techniques, the same practical ideas therapists use to help children connect thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

How it plays

Two to four players, 20 to 40 minutes. Answer, complete, plant. Count the trees at the end. There are 44 of them, so the board fills up and the finish is visible from a long way out.

Good for

  • Children who need a game to be a proper game before they will engage with it
  • Slightly older children who find simpler question games babyish
  • Small groups where a competitive element keeps everyone in

  • Best game ever!

Not long into the game, my daughter (8 years old, 3rd grade) declared it as her favorite game ever! She said she loves answering questions, and sharing her thoughts... and I love it too! I got to see more of her beautiful mind and heart. Answering questions I wouldn't even think about. The idea of this game is simple and fun, easy to play, she pretended like she is putting on gloves and digging out the dirt before planting the trees, it was so much fun, we were laughing, and talking, definitely made our hearts grow. Can't wait to play it again. My daughter also commented on the design of the game, and how she loves the way this company always keeps the design so 'clear' and soft. Everything is made out of wood, not cheap plastic, great quality that will last. Definitely worth the money, I already recommended to my friends and family.

  • Good for family game nights or even classroom use!

This game has been a nice addition for our family. It brings us together and helps everyone practice expressing and understanding emotions. The questions are simple but thought-provoking and lead to conversations we might not have had otherwise. It’s well-designed for building empathy and openness in a low-key way. Good for family game nights or even classroom use.

  • Insightful and fun

I bought this game to play with my little one (almost 5). She found the game fun and exciting. She loved the game so much she kept asking to play it over and over. I found the game engaging and insightful. Very good to get to know a child through play either in a family or a therapy setting. The game is durable, has vivid colors and easy to set up and play. Highly recommended!

  • Gets the kids talking!

We got this game for our 5 year old as a gift. She really enjoys playing it, and we enjoy hearing her answers and play with her. It encourages the children to talk, which is something we wanted more of. It also makes it easier to bring up different topics in a fun way, so they don't get bored. I really like this game! I'd play it every week until we finish all the cards!

  • Excellent game!

I didn't expect to have so much fun playing this game with my kids, but it was a hit! They really got into the questions, sparked some deep conversations and shared their thoughts and feelings. They especially liked to talk about imaginary thoughts that followed the questions. I definitely recommend it. We will play it over and over in our house. Plus, it's simple enough for the kids to play on their own without needing an adult around.

  • Great time for therapy

As a therapist working with kids, I'm always on the lookout for tools that make therapy engaging, comfortable and productive. The kids absolutely love it and always look forward to play more. It makes it so much easier for them to love it and share their feelings in a fun and relaxed way. I've already noticed real progress since started to use it.
