About this game

Twenty feelings, and for each one, six things a child can actually do about it. Flip to grumpy and the page says: go somewhere quiet, play with my toys, listen to music, focus on something positive, exercise, get some rest.

The point is that a child can use it alone. It sits on a shelf or a desk, and when things go wrong they can go and find the page themselves. That is a very different thing from an adult telling them to calm down, and it works when no adult is available.

The vegetable characters are cheerful and a bit daft, which is deliberate. A child in a temper will not pick up something that looks like a lesson.

How it works

Flip to the feeling. Read the six options. Pick one. No rules, no adult needed, though it works just as well as a conversation starter.

Good for

  • Children who need a strategy in the moment, not afterwards
  • Classrooms, calm corners and quiet spaces
  • Children who respond better to pictures than to being talked at

What's inside

  • 21 pages covering 20 feelings
  • Six coping ideas for every feeling

Also available in a Monsters edition with the same content and different illustrations.

The Vegetables flipbook feelings index, showing all 20 emotions as vegetable characters.

  • Cute pictures

Stands upright which is perfect at our learning station. Gloss cardboard, not laminated so I do not leave unattended. I do like the wide range of emotions, as even though my children are too young to understand all of them currently the book will grow with them as they learn to identify more emotions. The size is smaller than I expected, and it takes a while to find the emotion your kid is requesting as you have to flip through the whole thing but they are placed alphabetically so maybe in time we will get used to it. The back page shows all the emotions and I use that as the cover page so my toddlers can easily see the display and choose accordingly. Cute graphics. Overall would recommend.

  • 5 year old with autism

I gave this to my 5 year old grandson for his birthday. He has severe autism and is non verbal. My daughter-in-law told me yesterday (after using it for 1 week) that this was the best gift he's ever got. Not only can he communicate feelings to her but she has been trying to potty train him for 3 years now, when he had an accident she was able to show him in the book that she felt frustrated. He got it! I highly recommend this book to help communication with non verbal autistic children.

  • Absolutely LOVE it!

This book is so sweet and perfect for kids who are exploring their feelings. The characters are beautiful and relatable. Every page is filled with colorful illustrations and simple, easy-to-understand the sulotions. This book is definitely a must-have for any parent or caregiver raising emotionally aware little ones.

  • Yeah, it’s a book

Works great for the kids. Stand could be more durable but overall no complaints.

  • Pleased

My 11 yr old has been diagnosed with ADHD, SPD, anxiety, probably the beginnings of ODD, and suspected PDD-NOS (PDA) with ASD evaluation in progress. I carefully gave him this flip book and explained that it's not just for kids with ASD, and that manners are a life skill everyone needs. We put him on ADHD meds and he has read the flip book along with an asperkids book a few times at bedtime. Yesterday he made a mistake and (totally on his own) delivered a very detailed apology and said he was deeply sorry. We were all very impressed. I haven't pushed the book on him and only went over it with him once--the rest of the work, he has done on his own. Your experience may vary of course, but I would highly recommend this tool to anyone with kids who have HFA. I really wasn't expecting much, I figured his therapist could help him if I brought the book to therapy (he doesn't respond well to pressure and doesn't like when I try to teach him things). He's only been to therapy one day, last month. So I'm very impressed with how well this little book works for us. It has specific situations and specific solutions in it.

  • Great emotion support for toddlers

I have a very strong willed toddler so I have look for any and everything to help and I came across this, I was hesitant as I didn’t expect a book to help but my son responded well to correlating his feelings with the pictures and picking something to do that will make him feel better or rewarded. If you’re looking for help I’d say it’s worth a shot!
